The Eel River Cooperative Sediment Reduction and Water Quality Improvement Program was a 3-phase program that treated roads, stream banks, and landslides in the Eel River basin. Other erosion prevention and control projects are occurring that are tied in with restoration projects.
Project Examples Include:
Minor or Small Bank Stablization Treatments

HCRCD has entered into a cooperative working agreement with a local watershed group – the Yager/Van Duzen Environmental Stewards (Y.E.S.) to complete on-the-ground treatments on ranch roads to reduce sediment delivery to watercourses.
Funding Agency: County of Humboldt-funding source California State Water Resource Control Board/ Prop. 50

Completed 2011
Under grants from the Department of Fish and Game HCRCD is working in cooperation with Pacific Watershed Associates (PWA) to accomplish road decommissioning projects on private lands in the Freshwater Creek Watershed.
Funding Agency: Department of Fish and Game/ Fisheries Restoration Grant Program

Under grants from the Department of Fish and Game HCRCD is working in cooperation with Pacific Watershed Associates (PWA) to accomplish road decommissioning projects on private lands in the Elk River Watershed.
Funding Agency: Department of Fish and Game/ Fisheries Restoration Grant Program

Completed 2011
This project will accomplish treatments on 6.8 miles of ranch roads on private land that is placed under a perpetual conservation easement. The goal of the project is to decrease sediment in the North Fork Yager Creek Watershed.
Funding Agency: Department of Fish and Game/ Fisheries Restoration Grant Program

Completed 2011
This project objective is to facilitate riparian forest regeneration through plantings, road crossing stabilization, livestock watering systems and fencing.
Funding Agency: Department of Fish and Game/Fisheries Restoration Grant Program

Completed 2011
This project is to accomplish additional treatments on 1500 feet of road and one stream crossing on private land that is under a perpetual conservation easement.
Funding Agency: Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission/Fisheries Restoration Grant Program

Completed 2011
This project is to implement site specific erosion control measures to protect and improve salmonid spawning and rearing habitat. Decommission 2.9 miles of road and 24 sites thereby saving approximately 2,748 cubic yards of sediment from delivery to Salmon Creek.
Funding Agency: Department of Fish and Game/Fisheries Restoration Grant Program

The project objective is to facilitate riparian forest regeneration and prevent sediment delivery through plantings, bank stablization, livestock watering systems and fencing.
Funding Agency: Department of Fish and Game/Fisheries Restoration Grant Program

This project is to implement site specific erosion control measures to protect and improve spawning and rearing habitat for Chinook and Coho salmon and steelhead trout. Upgrade 22 sites on 5.15 miles of road to prevent potential delivery of approximately 15,862 cubic yards of sediment. Upgrade 20 stream crossings.
Funding Agency: Department of Fish and Game/Fisheries Restoration Grant Program

To develop ranch plans to set conservation and restoration goals to lead to improving spawning and rearing habitat of Coho and Chinook salmon and steelhead trout on ranches in the Grizzly Creek Watershed, tributary to the Van Duzen River.
